CM Punk Shoots on EVPs, Adam Page and MJF

CM Punk Makes AEW Media Scrum All About Him: Shoot

When AEW All Out 2022 finished no one expected the big story to come out of the night to be CM Punk going off on one during the post-show media scrum. In a new series here at Lace ‘Em Up we take a look at the current news stories of the week and give you our opinions on if it’s a shoot or a work. Two different perspectives on the same situation for our first look we discussing CM Punk and the fallout from this crazy situation. You can find the whole thing below, thanks to Denise Salcedo and www.f4wonline.com.

So, what actually happened?

CM Punk came into the AEW Media Scrum hot and angry, aggressive even, going off about Scott Colton, who you may know as Colt Cabana and the situation was uncomfortable to watch. He shut down Tony Kahn on many occasions, while the owner of the company sat there unable to speak or even believe what was going on. Punk went on to attack ‘Hangman’ Adam Page verbally over a promo from months ago and even tried to bury MJF but he didn’t stop there.

Did It Get Worse?

Oh yes, it did, Punk then went on to verbally insult the EVPs of the company, Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson, throwing insults and calling them children. He would then go on to accuse them of “spreading lies and bullsh*t” to the media about Colt Cabana, which has been debunked by multiple reporters. This is the catalyst for what would transpire later. News has come out fast since then about the altercation that happened afterward and the fan reaction is mixed but mainly against CM Punk and his conduct.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez reported multiple sources saying there was “an altercation” between the two parties after Punk gave comments during the media scrum. A security guard was seen running out of the scrum shortly after Punk left. Tony Khan was not informed of the situation until after the scrum wrapped up.

The Backstage Brawl

News has now come out that the brawl took place in CM Punk’s locker room when The Bucks and Omega confronted him about what he said. According to reports, Punk threw punches at one of the Bucks, this got out of hand when Ace Steel, Punk’s friend, backstage producer, and trainer, threw a chair at Nick Jackson, who might have a blackeye from this, as well as pulling Kenny Omega’s hair and bitting him. Conflicting reports say that both Christopher Daniels and Pat Buck had to pull them apart. This is so beyond unprofessional and completely unacceptable behavior.

Since then there have been reports that no one is allowed to speak on the situation, it seems that the police or even lawyers are now involved. Along with the black eye and bite mark, it seems that Punk might also be injured. This has all got completely out of hand now but it seems that the internet and wrestling talking heads all have an opinion. As do I. As of right now, suspensions have been handed out, CM Punk, Ace Steel, Kenny Omega, Nick Jackson, Matt Jackson, and Pat Buck will not be at Dynamite this week. Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho have been called in and re-writes are being done for the show.

What Need’s To Happen Now? Will CM Punk Get The Boot?

Now this feels like a shoot and I will be treating it as such. What has happened here is unprofessional, if you really care about a company and the people working there the last thing you do is try and bury the people running it and your fellow colleagues. CM Punk, for me, has burned all his bridges, he has gone out of his way to attack the EVPs, Colt Cabana along with the biggest babyface that the company has built, Hangman Adam Page, and the biggest heel they have built up, MJF, making everything about himself.

CM Punk is the World Champion at the time of writing but will that still be the case after all of this? I hope not. When you are the World Champion you are meant to represent the company, be respectful, and don’t air your shit this publicly or use a media scrum for personal vendettas.

We didn’t see this with Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, or Adam Page, we don’t see this in WWE with Roman Reigns, but with CM Punk it has happened. If you look back at his time in WWE there were multiple occasions when CM Punk went off on one. Cody told a great story about how everyone laughed behind Punk’s back cause he thought he was a locker room leader.

CM Punk has a track record of being difficult to work with, he has complained about not main-eventing WrestleMania, and now, after a long break, he is back in the business and using AEW as his playground. Punk claimed that Hangman and whoever else hasn’t done anything for the business, this really ground my gears, because what has he done for the indy wrestling scene since making the jump to WWE? Nothing, if he really cared about the wrestling scene he would have done more. He wouldn’t have come back just for the money, which seems to be the case.

Punk has acted like a, let’s put it simply, a dick and there needs to be repercussions to his actions. Ace Steel needs to be let go or at least suspended and sent to anger management. Punk should be stripped of his championship and we need to hold a tournament for a new champion, no interim, let’s get that Adam Page/MJF match off of the ground. The Bucks and Omega need to take a step back for a few weeks, just until this all dies down.

Now, it’s 2022. I haven’t been friends with this guy since at least 2014, late 2013. The fact that I have to sit up here because we have irresponsible people who call themselves EVPs and couldn’t f*cking manage a Target and they spread lies and bullsh*t and put into the media that I got somebody fired when I have f*ck all to do with him, want nothing to do with him, do not care where he works, where he doesn’t work, where he eats, where he sleeps. And the fact that I have to get up here and do this in 2022 is f*cking embarrassing. And if y’all are at fault, f*ck you. If you’re not, I apologize.

What did I ever do in this world to deserve an empty-headed f*cking dumb f*ck like Hangman Adam Page to go out on national television and f*cking go into business for himself? For what? What did I do? What did I ever do? Didn’t do a goddamn thing.

It’s not [Tony Khan’s] position to make it very f*cking clear [that Punk didn’t have anything to do with Cabana being moved to ROH]. There’s people who call themselves EVPs that should have f*cking known better. This sh*t was none of their business. I understand sticking up for your f*cking friends, I f*cking get it, I stuck up for that guy [Cabana] more than anybody. Okay? I paid his bills until I didn’t and it was my decision not to.
